Lately, thousands of people cross the border between the United States and Canada on foot, hoping to secure asylum on Canadian lands.   The reasons are often complex and range from poverty to being against the current US government.   In Canada, most often have mixed opinions on this topic. On one side are those who open the doors to these people and give them an opportunity to present their case to the authorities. In the other, there are those who see these families as opportunists, who only seek to enter the country bypassing the stages and, in addition, generate a great burden to the State.   However, there is always the question: what are the benefits that these people receive?   First step: once they cross the border, these people are detained by Mounted Canadian Police officers. From there, they have to submit the first documents to determine if they may opt for an asylum application. This includes reviewing criminal records, immigration history in Canada, as well as other identity checks. This process is currently taking weeks, even months.   Accommodation: While waiting for your process to begin, they receive accommodation. First in one of the camps on the border and then in one of the temporary centers installed in several regions of Quebec, province that has received almost all of the refugees. Health: Asylum seekers generally have the right to certain health services from the moment their application is accepted for processing without the need for approval.
